At Dogs of Ella, we’re dedicated to giving street dogs not just a second chance—but a new beginning filled with safety, love, and a forever home. Every rescue is a step toward healing, hope, and the happy life they deserve.
Dogs of Ella began with two women, Doyel and Jessica, and a mission: give street dogs in Ella a second chance. What started small is now a growing sanctuary, powered by volunteers, donors, and love. Beyond rescue, we focus on long-term change—through sterilization, medical care, and education in the local community.

Guardians of the Paws
Our on-site team consists of passionate animal lovers who care for the dogs daily, manage the shelter’s structure and coordinate rescues and treatments. They know every dog by name and heart, ensuring that each animal receives individual attention, love and care.

Sri Lanka is home to an overwhelming number of stray dogs, with estimates in the millions.
Many suffer from untreated injuries, malnutrition or preventable diseases such as tick fever, mange or parvovirus. Rabies, in particular, remains a deadly threat for both dogs and humans due to a lack of consistent vaccination programs in many areas.
